Here's a solution that prevents messy wires.  It utilizes the OBD port in your vehicle to establish a 12v supply for the RJ11 plug.  This is a common plug for many radar detectors from popular manufacturers like Escort, Valentine, and Uniden.  

Please check your radar manufacturer for specifications.  

NOTE:  Most OBD ports are a constant 12v supply even when the vehicle is off.  Many detectors have auto sleep functions incorporated into them that can be utilized or you can turn the detector on / off manually.

This item works great!

Now instead of having a wire dangling down from my radar detector I use this OBD to RJ11 connector for power, it was easy to run the wire. Stickerfab is a good vendor, quick shipping and good communication.
