Mirror Tap to 12V RJ11 Radar Detector Power Cord — Universal
Tap the mirror wire for a factory-clean install. Built-in fuse and on/off switch included.
The Factory-Clean Way to Power Your Radar
The rearview mirror is the ideal power source for a windshield-mounted radar detector. The mirror connector is right there — behind the headliner, inches from where your detector mounts — and it runs always-on 12V in virtually every modern vehicle.
This mirror tap cord connects into that existing harness, routes the short distance to your detector, and delivers clean 12V power without a single wire visible in your cabin. The inline fuse protects your electrical system; the included on/off switch gives you manual control.
No cigarette lighter plug. No OBD cord routed through the whole vehicle. Just clean, OEM-style power from the source closest to your detector.

Install Overview
- Gently pull down the headliner near the rearview mirror to expose the mirror harness
- Unplug the mirror connector and plug the mirror tap in-line
- Route the cord the short distance to your radar detector mount
- Connect the RJ11 end to your detector's power port
- Tuck the inline fuse and switch into the headliner — done
Works best paired with a 3M adhesive mount so both the power cord and mount are near the mirror rather than running a cord down the windshield.

Frequently Asked Questions
|
Will this work with my auto-dimming or HomeLink mirror? Most auto-dimming and HomeLink mirrors use a standard harness connector. The mirror tap is designed for universal compatibility, but connector style can vary — check your mirror harness before ordering if unsure.
|
Is the mirror wire ignition-switched or always-on? On most modern vehicles, the mirror wire is ignition-switched — powers on with the key and off when you shut down. Your radar detector turns on and off automatically with the car.

|
What does the inline fuse protect? It protects the circuit from an overcurrent or short in the cord or detector. The OEM mirror circuit is also fused at the fusebox, but the inline fuse adds protection specific to the radar power line.
|
Why is this more popular than the OBD cord? The mirror tap source is right at the mount location — no routing through the full A-pillar. It's faster to install for most windshield-mounted setups.
